I'm An Introvert But Need To Market My Books
Hello fellow introvert! Marketing poses some unique challenges for folks like us… but if you want eyeballs on your work, you’ve gotta get visible! So here are some tips to help marketing be a not-horrible and sustainable part of your week.
Set boundaries for social media interaction.
You can’t be “on” all the time. You shouldn’t be getting pinged by people all day, every day. How exhausting! Limit your notifications, or only allow them during certain hours. Give yourself social media off time (no social media from 8pm to 10am, for example… this can make you way more productive, too! 😉).
Choose marketing platforms that you feel most comfortable on.
Trying to turn yourself into a TikToker, if you hate the app and rarely watch videos, is going to make your marketing harder than necessary. Gravitate towards the platforms that you already like and/or that have content that you like to create. Like tiny short snippets, frequently? Maybe Threads! Like long-form content and images? Maybe Substack! Like making and looking at eye-catching images? Instagram!
Generate tons of ideas!
Marketing consistently is hard enough without having to wonder what to talk about each day! Use ChatGPT (yes, I said it) to generate large lists of content ideas for your genre, hobbies, and target market. Don’t use ChatGPT to write anything (I had to say it). If it feels good, choose certain days for certain types of posts (Featured Review Monday; Friday fun day; Character Deep Dive Thursdays; Friend-Promo Friday; Sultry Saturday; etc., etc.). Make it EASY to do the right thing (Market yourself) by putting in an hour of prep work each month or so.
