Here’s a quick breakdown of a social media framework I talk about in some of my workshops.
There are 3 types of posts:
1️⃣ Value or Entertainment Posts
These are the heart of your content.
✅ They provide value to your audience by entertaining, inspiring, or educating.
✅ Sharing your life counts too—because you are the brand.
✨ Examples:
- A funny reel or TikTok about writer life
- A behind-the-scenes photo or a silly pic of your dog
- A fun fact about your character/world/you
2️⃣ Engagement Posts
These exist to spark interaction.
✅ Their goal is to generate likes, comments, shares, and save-worthy content.
✅ Engagement boosts the algorithm, which means your value and promo posts reach more people.
✨ Examples:
- “Which book boyfriend would you choose?”
- “What do you think is the hottest trope right now?”
- Caption this photo!
3️⃣ Call-to-Action / Promotional Posts
These invite your audience to do something that you want them to do.
✅ These are important—but work best when they’re supported by your value and engagement content.
✨ Examples:
- “Grab my new novella!”
- “Sign up for my newsletter to get a bonus epilogue.”
- “Preorder now!”
- “Vote for my book in this contest.”
📊 The 3:2:1 Strategy
Here’s a simple posting ratio I’ve seen success with…
For every 6 posts, do:
- 3 Value/Entertainment
- 2 Engagement
- 1 Call-to-Action
This keeps your audience entertained, involved, and ready to take action when it counts.
